How I Knew - Painting Series
How I knew - Works In Progress
How I Knew is an ongoing series of paintings exploring my own relationships, sexuality and the complicated process of understanding my feelings. Working across acrylic, oil and pencil, I use painting as a way of exploring experiences and emotions that can be difficult to articulate through words.
The series considers how we come to know what we truly feel when our emotions can be layered beneath expectations, assumptions and opinions imposed upon us. It is an exercise in introspection — questioning where our feelings come from, how we recognise them as our own, and whether it is possible to separate our own desires from the ideas we have absorbed from others.
Rather than attempting to provide clear answers, the work is a visual exploration of uncertainty, memory, desire and self-understanding. Each painting becomes a way of giving form to something I might otherwise struggle to articulate — a process of looking inward and learning to trust what I find there.
